Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has revealed that he is devoting extra hours in training to improving his scoring rate.

The Brazil international, who arrived at Anfield in January 2013 from Italian outfit Inter Milan, has become one of the important fixtures in Liverpool’s campaign this season.

Coutinho scored five goals and assisted a further seven last season as Brendan Rodgers’ side came within two points of winning the Premier League. He has scored two and assisted the same number in the league this season so far.

The 22-year-old believes with more practice he can increase his attacking contribution to the team’s cause, and in the same quest he has started devoting extra hours in training with the singular aim of providing more potency to Rodgers’ side.

“There are always so many things to improve. I've been working on assisting my teammates even further and improving my goal tally as I understand this as being part of my role”, he told the club site.

The youngster further added that an improved final touch and better accuracy while shooting are the main points of focus during his training sessions.

“I expect to do better on this. In training, I've been working with our coaches on specific tasks to better my final touch.

“Whenever possible, I have post-training sessions to work on improving my shooting accuracy.”

Coutinho will get the opportunity to add more to his goal tally when Liverpool host West Ham United in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday. The Reds will be looking to put the pain of Tuesday night's League Cup semi-final exit to Chelsea behind them.
