Rangers defender Lee McCulloch believes that they have an enormous task on their hands when they take on their fierce rivals Celtic on Sunday.

Kenny McDowall’s side currently sit second in the Scottish Championship, behind Hearts, as they bid for a promotion to the top division after an absence of three years.

Rangers will face Ronny Deila’s men in the semi-final of their Scottish League Cup tie at Hampden Park, a match where the Scottish Premiership leaders are heavy favourites.

But McCulloch believes that the Celtic tie gives Rangers a chance to turn their season around with a giant killing act against their hated rivals, feeling victory would provide everyone in and around the club with a boost.

“It would just be good to get the result and give us a lift, give the fans a lift and give the club a lift and we could use that to kick start the season”, McCulloch told the club site.

However, the centre-back has no illusions about the difficulty of their task as he expects it to be a fast paced and difficult game, as Old Frim matches always are. And Rangers, he says, must be at their best.

“But it’s not going to be easy on Sunday, it will be a 100mph game and we’re going to need to be at our very very best in order to have a chance of winning the game.

“The pressure is all on Celtic because everybody is expecting them to turn us over.

“It’s just up to us to go out there, give a good account of ourselves, go and enjoy it and try our best to get that win."
