Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is open to doing business on transfer deadline day provided an exceptional talent becomes available.

Wenger has just completed the capture of Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal, with forward Joel Campbell going the other way on loan, but still has money to spend on the right recruits.

The Frenchman has often done late, late business on transfer deadline day, notably snapping up Danny Welbeck from Manchester United on the final day of the summer window last year.

And he is not opposed to doing the same again, even if he is somewhat sceptical that the right type of player will be available before the window slams shut on Monday evening.

"If I wake up in the morning and somebody is stood in front of my door who is an exceptional player, I will open the door", he was quoted as saying by ITV.

"I can give you my address if you want, [but] it looks very unlikely now."

And Wenger, with a nod to prior late deals, is willing to wait as long as possible if the right player becomes available. He continued: "I always left it late in the past because we could not finish the deals before.

"What we want is to do well and if you have to wait until the last minute, you wait as long as you can – we have done Welbeck on the last day of a transfer period and I am very happy that we have done it."

The Gunners are continuing to be linked with players as the closure of the transfer window approaches.
