Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Danny Welbeck could well be fit to feature against Aston Villa this weekend, but promised the striker should be back and ready to face rivals Tottenham Hotspur on 7th February in any eventuality.

Wenger, speaking to a press conference this morning, was asked about Welbeck's current fitness status, with a view to the Aston Villa meeting, and said: "He's still out.

"He could be available Sunday, but he's definitely available next week."

But while Welbeck is certain to be ready for the north London derby, Wenger admits that winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may well miss the clash and need a little longer to recover.

"He could be out longer. He may be a bit short for the Tottenham game", Wenger explained.

Wenger also addressed the recovery of midfielder Jack Wilshere, explaining that the England international, who has been a long term injury absentee following an injury picked up against Manchester United last year, could well return ahead of schedule.

And the Arsenal boss said Wilshere is "doing very well" with his recovery.

"Jack is doing very well. He is a week ahead of schedule and should return in 10 days", the Arsenal manager added.
