Burnley have rubbished transfer speculation that Liverpool want to sign their striker Danny Ings and then send him back to Turf Moor to complete the season.

Ings is out of contract in the summer, though being under 24 years old would still cost Liverpool a fee if they move for him when his deal expires.

It has been suggested that to put themselves in pole position to snap up Ings, Liverpool are ready to buy the striker this month and then send him back on loan to Burnley to see out the campaign.

But Burnley are clear that to do so would be to break Premier League rules, meaning such a deal simply cannot happen.

Burnley chief executive Lee Hoos told the club's site: "This type of move would violate Premier League rule V7 regarding transfers so simply cannot happen.

"This is the last time we will be making any comment regarding the player’s future."

And Hoos is clear that Burnley will not cash in on Ings this month, with the club determined that the striker should finish the season at Turf Moor.

"Over the course of the window, the player himself, Sean Dyche and the chairman have made it clear he won’t be going anywhere and we consider that the end of the matter."
