Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has hailed the presence of Michael Carrick in the team and called him an inspirational figure at the club.

Herrera joined the Red Devils at the start of the current season from Spanish La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao and has contributed two goals and three assists from his 12 league appearances thus far.

Carrick is a veteran at Old Trafford and has been a constant presence in their midfield since joining the club in the summer of 2006 from Tottenham Hotspur. He has won five Premier League titles and one Champions League during his time at the club.

Talking to MUTV, Herrera praised Carrick’s attitude on the pitch and insisted that the mere presence of the Englishman in the team gives him confidence.

“He always gives us calmness; he's a very calm guy when he's playing. He gives me confidence.

“He is very good for the young players because he always tries to help, not necessarily with words but with his attitude and his calmness.

“He is one of the best players I've ever played with and a very good professional”, the Spaniard concluded.

Herrera will look to help Manchester United win all three points when they entertain Leicester City in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday.
