AC Milan have officially completed the capture of striker Mattia Destro from Roma, beating Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur to the punch.

Mauricio Pochettino's men were keen on Destro and willing to lay out the funds for an outright purchase this month.

But the Italy international insisted on joining AC Milan, who have now confirmed he has passed his medical and signed on the dotted line at club headquarters this morning.

AC Milan announced: "Mattia Destro arrives from Roma, he is now officially at AC Milan on loan with a right to buy."

Destro was not taken by the idea of heading to White Hart Lane, having instead set his heart on turning out for the Rossoneri in his homeland.

Roma had been looking to send Destro to Spurs and take Vlad Chiriches as part of the deal, with the Romanian centre-back a long-term Giallorossi target.

It remains to be seen whether Roma will continue to push ahead with their plans to snap up Chiriches from Spurs in the current transfer window, which has just days left to run.
