Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has urged Reds fans to be patient as he inches closer to full fitness and returns to first team action.

Sturridge was one of Liverpool’s standout performers last season when they mounted a spirited challenge for the Premier League, though they eventually lost out to Manchester City by two points.

The England international, who scored 22 goals and assisted a further nine in Liverpool’s title challenge last season, made only three appearances at the start of the current campaign before he was stricken by a thigh muscle strain which was followed by a hamstring injury which has kept him out of the starting eleven.

After going through a rigorous regime, which included the striker going to the United States to seek specialist advice, Sturridge is close to making a return to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Liverpool have struggled to maintain their superlative displays of last season in the absence of their talismanic striker as they lie a lowly eighth in the league, but Sturridge has asked fans to be patient as he may take some time to regain last season’s form.

“Everyone has got to be patient”, he told LFCTV GO.

However, he assured the Liverpool faithful that he will not leave any stone unturned to get back to his best.

“I am just going to give my best, give 100 per cent on the pitch – I always do – and I won't hold back from anything.

“I take responsibility for my performances on the pitch and I look forward to getting back out there.

“I can't wait to start playing again – that's what I have been waiting for and working hard in rehab for. I am looking forward to that now.”

The 25-year-old could make his return when Liverpool play West Ham United at Anfield today.
