Former Manchester United manager David Moyes was quick to praise Real Madrid after his Real Sociedad side were comfortably beaten by them yesterday.

Goals from Sergio Ramos, James Rodriguez and a brace from Karim Benzema helped the European champions to register a resounding 4-1 win over La Real yesterday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It was Moyes’ first visit to the iconic stadium as a Real Sociedad boss and he was fairly confident of getting a result after beating Barcelona earlier in the season at home.

Though the game started positively for the former Manchester United boss when Aritz Elustondo headed Real Sociedad in front after 38 seconds, they failed to counter Real Madrid’s attacking onslaught and Carlo Ancelotti’s side were already 2-1 ahead in the break.

Moyes is disappointed that his side failed to capitalise on the opportunity after taking the lead at the Bernabeu, but admitted that they took on one of the best sides in the world in Real Madrid.

“We didn’t manage to get into the rhythm of the game at all”, Moyes said in a press conference post-match.

“We had the chance to build on the opening goal but we couldn’t. Today I’ve watched one of the best teams in the world, there’s no question about that.

“And the whole Bernabeu experience has been marvellous.”

Real Sociedad are 12th in La Liga, while Real Madrid maintained their position at the top of the league table.
