Inter are aiming to re-sign Davide Santon from Newcastle United before the winter transfer window closes on Monday evening.

The Magpies swooped to snap Santon up from Inter in the summer of 2011, handing him a five-year contract and splashing out around £5m to sign the Italian starlet.

This term Santon has seen his playing time at Newcastle restricted, first through injury and more recently as other options have been preferred.

Now Inter are moving to take Santon back to Italy and, according to Sky Italia, are hopeful of signing him on loan before Monday evening.

The defender is thought to be open to heading back to Italy to link up with new Inter coach Roberto Mancini.

The Nerazzurri have already brought in a number of players in the current window, adding Lukas Podolski from Arsenal, Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich and Marcelo Brozovic from Dinamo Zagreb.

And Santon could be set to join Mancini's men and do his bit towards helping Inter push for a top three spot in Serie A.
