Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has paid tribute to the Rangers fans following his side's 2-0 defeat of their Glasgow rivals in a Scottish League Cup semi-final clash today.

Griffiths scored Celtic's opening goal at Hampden Park after just ten minutes, before Kris Commons doubled the Bhoys' advantage in the 31st minute.

Celtic completely dominated their Championship rivals and bossed the game from start to finish, with Rangers struggling to work goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Griffiths though was impressed by the support Rangers were given considering their poor performance and saluted the Gers fans.

"It doesn't get any better than this – a full Hampden Park", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I've got to give credit to the Rangers fans because they stuck with their team right to the end and you saw them in their thousands clapping their team off the park."

And Griffiths admits that when he found out boss Ronny Deila was naming him in the starting eleven for the Old Firm clash he became nervous. He was though able to calm his nerves to produce a professional display.

"The team was announced this morning at the hotel. I went back to my room and I was very nervous, but I got in the changing room and the manager told me to calm down and do my thing", he revealed.

Celtic will take on Dundee United in the final and are still on course to win a domestic treble as a result of their victory over Rangers.
