Roma have made a breakthrough in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over signing Vlad Chiriches before the transfer window slams shut, while the player himself has also said yes to the move.

Discussions between the two clubs have been tough, with Spurs demanding a loan fee of €2m for the former Steaua Bucharest man, a sum Roma have been unwilling to pay.

But according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Roma are now rapidly closing on taking Chiriches to the Italian capital.

The Giallorossi will take the centre-back on loan for the remainder of the season, with the right to make his move permanent if he impresses in Serie A.

However, the agreement will not contain a mandatory purchase option, leaving Roma free to decide if they wish to keep Chiriches.
