Stuart Pearce has left his role as Nottingham Forest manager following Saturday's Championship defeat to struggling Millwall.

Pearce was under immense pressure at the City Ground and now his reign is over, despite the former England Under-21 boss penning a two-year deal last summer.

An ex-Forest captain, Pearce presided over a run of six defeats in the club's last seven games, leaving them floundering in 12th in the Championship, as the club's form nosedived.

Defeat to Ian Holloway's Millwall at the City Ground proved to be the final straw and after the match, Pearce dubbed it a disappointing afternoon.

He told the BBC: "It was a disappointing afternoon. Millwall were a team who were waiting to be beaten. I was disappointed that we did not win."

Pearce leaves Forest sitting 13 points off the playoff places in the Championship, a far cry from the flying start they made to the current league campaign under the former left-back.

The club will now commence their search for a new manager as they aim to arrest an alarming slide in form and climb up the table in the second half of the season.
