Pep Guardiola was happy with Bayer Munich’s performance against Schalke last night despite earning only a point at home in their Bundesliga meeting.

After suffering a 4-1 drubbing at Wolfsburg last weekend, Bayern Munich could only manage a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena against Roberto Di Matteo’s Schalke.

The German champions went a man down after Jerome Boateng was dismissed for a professional foul on Sidney Sam after just 16 minutes, but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting failed to convert the resulting penalty.

Arjen Robben opened the scoring in the 67th minute for Bayern Munich, but Benedikt Howedes levelled the scores just five minutes later and the match petered out for a draw.

Guardiola was pleased with the performance of his team, especially after they went a man down, and feels that it was a much better showing than their weekend drubbing at Wolfsburg.

The Bayern Munich boss believes feels that his team were lucky that Schalke missed their penalty in the first half as that would have meant that they would have been a man and a goal down after just a few minutes.

“I’m not happy, I’m very, very, very happy”, the Spaniard told the club’s official site

“Obviously we wanted all three points, but 70 minutes with a man less against Schalke isn’t easy. We controlled the game very well and we had enough chances.

“It was a much better performance than against Wolfsburg.

“Everything’s OK – there’s no debate about the red card! We were lucky they missed the penalty.”
