Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is pleased with the performance of his team in their hard-fought win over Sevilla yesterday.

Ancelotti’s side took an early lead when James Rodriguez scored with a header in the 12th minute of the match. The Colombian was replaced in the 27th minute due to an injury and his replacement Jese doubled Real Madrid’s advantage in the 36th minute. Iago Aspas cut the European champions' lead to one goal with his 80th minute strike. There were no further goals as the hosts won 2-1.

The win sees Real Madrid stretch their lead at the top of La Liga to four points as they look to win their first title since the 2011/12 season.

Talking after the match, Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction with the result of the midweek clash.

“I liked the way the team played the entire match”, he was quoted as saying by AS.

The Italian went on to add that Sevilla gave them a tough game and Unai Emery’s side had an advantage on set pieces due to their height, but Real Madrid deserved their win.

“We had good chances and it was to be expected that we would find things difficult at the end because they are taller, for dead ball situations.

“We deserved to win and everything went well."

Looking ahead to their next league match which they play against their fierce derby rivals Atletico Madrid, Ancelotti acknowledged that their performances against Diego Simeone’s side have not been up to the mark.

“Our recent games against them haven’t been so good and the main thing is to change this run.

“It’ll be a tough match and we’re thinking about changing things.”
