Sam Allardyce admits his West Ham players are "gutted" at drawing 1-1 with Manchester United today after conceding a late, late goal, bemoaning "long ball United".

West Ham began brightly, putting pressure on Manchester United, whose defence instantly looked vulnerable, with David de Gea needing to be called into action on a number of occasions.

While it was 0-0 at half time, West Ham made their dominance count soon after the restart when Cheikhou Kouyate hit a superb strike on the turn to put the Hammers' 1-0 up in the 49th minute.

As the clock ticked down it looked as if West Ham would take the victory, but Daley Blind bundled the ball home in injury time to secure a 1-1 draw after the visitors began to bombard the Hammers with long balls. Manchester United had Luke Shaw sent off before the end for a second bookable offence.

It ended 1-1, with Allardyce explaining his side are gutted to have lost all three points so late on, pointing as a consolation to how the Red Devils had to change their ways.

"The lads are absolutely gutted and so they should be. It was a fantastic performance and I thought we were going to see it through but it wasn't to be", he told Sky Sports.

"We just needed to find the second goal and didn't manage to even though we had chances.

"In the end, we couldn't cope with long ball United, it was thump it forward and see what they get.

"It's not how you normally see United play, but it worked for them in the end", he added.
