Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has insisted that their 6-3 win against Everton earlier in the season was an aberration and the Toffees cannot be taken lightly as the Pensioners prepare to face the Merseyside outfit on Wednesday.

Matic, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window last year, has become an important feature of Jose Mourinho’s team.

The midfielder has played in all but one of the Blues’ games in the league this season and has won accolades for his stellar work in shielding the defence from his defensive midfield position. He has also contributed to Chelsea’s cause with a goal and two assists in the league thus far.

Chelsea registered their 17th win of the current league campaign when they defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in their last Premier League fixture. And a 1-1 draw against Hull City for defending champions Manchester City means that Mourinho’s team now have seven-point lead over the Citizens at the top of the table.

Looking ahead to their next fixture at home against Everton, Matic said that they need to continue their winning run against Roberto Martinez’s team.

“Now at home we have to win”, Matic told the club site.

However, the Serbian added that the Toffees will not be easy opponents as Chelsea’s 6-3 win over the Toffees in the reverse fixture might suggest.

“We know that it is also going to be difficult, but if we want to be champions we have to win. Everton is not the kind of team to concede six.”

Matic went on to add that the margin of the win will not matter as long as they win all three points.

“They did [concede six] against us, but not again so we just want to win, it doesn’t matter if it is with six goals or 1-0, we just need three points.”

A win for Chelsea on Wednesday would see them consolidate their lead at the top of the table as they look to win their first Premier League title since the 2009/10 season.
