Everton boss Roberto Martinez feels Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic should have received his marching orders for violent conduct last night in a Premier League match between the two teams.

A late Willian goal helped Chelsea to register a 1-0 win over the Toffees at Stamford Bridge, but the match had its fair share of drama before the Brazilian won it for the Blues in the 89th minute.

A match that looked destined for a 0-0 draw came to life after Everton midfielder Gareth Barry received his second yellow card for tripping Willian in the closing minutes.

As the opposing players clashed, Ivanovic locked his arm around James McCarthy’s neck and seemed to have pushed his head towards the Everton midfielder.

Martinez believes the Chelsea defender’s behaviour was unacceptable and feels according to the laws, Ivanovic should have received a red card for his shenanigans just before the Blues scored the winner.

"Ivanovic's behaviour is wrong”, the Everton manager told the BBC.

“He grabs McCarthy around his neck in a very forceful manner, and then puts his head against him. James McCarthy doesn't react a single bit.

"If you want to be on top of the law, that's a red card and we got nothing out of that moment."

It remains to be seen whether the English Football Association will take any action over the incident.
