England boss Roy Hodgson has reserved special praise for in-form Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and has indicated that he will name him in the England squad sooner rather than later.

The 21-year-old forward has been in scintillating form for Spurs this season, scoring 23 goals in all competitions and the club were quick to tie him down to a new long-term contract recently.

Although yet to make his senior debut for the Three Lions, Kane is a regular in the Under-21 set-up and has scored six goals in ten appearances.

A product of Tottenham’s youth academy, Kane’s performances this season have been one of the key reasons for Spurs’ upturn in form and he is expected to play a major role in determining whether the club manage to finish in the top four this term.

His form has not escaped the notice of the England boss and when asked whether the Spurs striker deserves a place in the Three Lions squad, Hodgson told the BBC: “Is he worth a place in the squad now? Of course he is.”

Though he is yet to play for the England senior team, Hodgson is keen to give Kane an opportunity to impress on the international stage.

"That's [whether he can do it on the international stage] something he'll have to prove.

"But unless I give him a chance in the squad, he'll never get a chance to prove that anyway.

"If you can be a star at a top team like Tottenham at the age of 21, then you're doing pretty well."
