Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has drawn comparisons between the legendary Don Revie's time at Elland Road and his own spell in charge of the Whites.

Revie led Leeds to two league titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup, the forerunner of the UEFA Cup twice, while he also guided the side out of the second tier in 1964. His time in charge is considered a golden era for the Whites, during which time they consistently challenged for top honours.

Redfearn, who took over as permanent Leeds boss earlier this season, sees similarities between how Revie trusted in young talents and the policy he is now pursuing at Elland Road.

Redfearn told LUTV: "We've got a really young squad and the more they play together the more they learn. Sometimes you learn that toughness through adversity.

"If you look at Leeds United when they were at their greatest, when Don Revie had them and they were struggling, everyone was moaning about them and they were struggling at the bottom end of the table", the 49-year-old continued.

"And they brought these young kids in and these young players came together – and the club took off.

"So it's important that these young players learn", Redfearn added.

Leeds have a number of highly rated young talents in their ranks and Redfearn has trusted several with regular first team duty.

The former midfielder regularly includes defenders Sam Byram and Charlie Taylor, along with midfielders Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt in his matchday squads.

At present Leeds sit five points clear of the drop zone in the Championship, a far cry from the success they enjoyed under the legendary Revie. However, Redfearn is convinced of the quality of his young charges.
