Lassana Diarra admits he may not play at all this season due to a contractual dispute with former club Lokomotiv Moscow.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder came close to joining Celtic earlier this season, but no move materialised, while Inter were keen on snapping him up last month.

More recently Diarra trained with West Ham and the Hammers were hopeful of adding him to their squad for the second half of the English campaign.

But their hopes were ended due to a contractual dispute between Diarra and Lokomotiv Moscow, which has seen FIFA block a transfer for the 29-year-old.

Now Diarra feels he may not play at all this season, although he does hold out hope of moving to a country where the transfer window is still open.

He told L'Equipe: "Yes [maybe I won’t play this season] and maybe I won't play at all!

"It will be very difficult for me to bounce back.

"In my heart, I hope to find a solution [and] sign in Switzerland where the market is still open, or the United States.

"But even if I find a club, will that work with FIFA?"

Diarra moved to play his football in Russia with then-big-spending Anzhi Makhachkala in 2012, agreeing to leave Real Madrid to take up the challenge.

He left Anzhi the following year to link up with Lokomotiv Moscow, but left the Russian Premier League giants only last summer.
