Ajax coach Frank de Boer, linked with taking over at Newcastle United in the summer, is expected to reach a decision over his future in March.

De Boer has led Ajax to the last four consecutive Eredivisie titles and as a result his stock is high. He snubbed the chance to talk to Liverpool in 2012, while he was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur before the north London side appointed Mauricio Pochettino last summer.

The coach is thought to be leaning towards staying at Ajax, but will only make a definitive decision by the middle of next month.

De Boer told the Algemeen Dagblad: "My future will soon be clear because that would be good for everyone at the club.

"For next season the squad must also be ready, so everyone needs to know where he stands."

Newcastle lost Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace earlier this season and were instantly linked with turning to De Boer as his replacement.

The Dutchman is not prepared to contemplate leaving Ajax in mid-season though and Newcastle soon decided to wait until the summer to appoint their favoured man, handing caretaker John Carver the role through to the end of the campaign.

The Premier League club have also been linked with other coaches, including Saint-Etienne's Christophe Galtier and former Lyon boss Remi Garde.
