Former Manchester United and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has been passed on by MLS side Colorado Rapids.

The American side are looking for a new striker and Forlan popped onto their radar as a potential addition for the new season, technical director Paul Bravo admits.

But the Rapids opted against pursuing Forlan, who is now 35 yearas old and currently plays for Japanese side Cerezo Osaka.

"He was a guy that was offered up to us", Bravo revealed to the Denver Post.

"I wouldn’t go beyond that. Everybody gets these players thrown out.

"Diego Forlan — did we have a conversation about him? Yes, we did.

"But it’s probably the same conversation 10 other clubs in this league have had in that same time frame", the Rapids technical director added.

Colorado Rapids are thought to prefer Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kevin Doyle, whose contract with the Championship club expires in the summer.

Doyle has been recommended to the Rapids by Los Angeles Galaxy striker Robbie Keane, who has played alongside him for the Republic of Ireland.

Forlan, who has 112 caps and 36 goals for Uruguay to his name, is best known for spells with Manchester United between 2002 and 2004, Villarreal from 2004 until 2007 and Atletico Madrid from 2007 until 2011.
