New Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has revealed that he is ready to bear the brunt for his team's poor performances as long he sees his players giving their 100 per cent.

The 46-year-old was appointed the man in charge at Villa Park this weekend and watched his team from the stands as they registered a 2-1 victory against Leicester City in the FA Cup on Sunday.

And now that he has taken charge of the team officially, the former Tottenham boss is keen to see his players work according to his instructions in order to come up with positive results.

Sherwood is also clear on his principles about not playing those who are not willing to give their 100 per cent for the team.

"I don't mind playing badly", Sherwood told his club's official site.

"What I can't tolerate is a lack of desire and effort because people are coming to watch them play. I demand that. That's a minimum requirement.

"If they aren't giving that then they're not going to play. That's it. It's up to me then."

For the team that are winless in their last five league matches and are currently fighting relegation, Sherwood might have to handle additional pressure in order to secure Aston Villa's Premier League status.

And he is ready to do just that as long as he gets full support from the players in his team.

"I'll take all the pressure. I'll take all the brunt of it if we don't get results.

"As long as they give me everything and they're trying to take on to that pitch what I'm telling them in training.

"You can't ignore instructions. They'll be quite simple instructions – so everyone who goes on that pitch will know exactly what I want from them – every single player."
