Former AC Milan and Rangers hitman Mark Hateley believes that Harry Kane is the best English striker since Alan Shearer.

Kane has shone at White Hart Lane for Tottenham Hotspur this season and has an astonishing 23 goals in all competitions to his name so far.

He is set to be introduced to Italian audiences this week when Spurs lock horns with Serie A side Fiorentina in the last 32 of the Europa League.

The Englishman is now primied for inclusion in Roy Hodgson's England squad for a Euro 2016 qualifier next month, further evidence he has arrived at the top level.

For Hateley, who won 32 caps for England between 1984 and 1992, there is little doubt that Kane is the best English striker since the legendary Shearer.

"He has been outstanding this year", the former striker told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

"I've already said in recent days that if he continues to go like this he can go really far.

"I agree 100 per cent [that he’s the best English striker since Shearer]. Harry has important qualities and I think that suits him in attack. He's an all-round forward.

"He has important qualities, good aerial technique and a wide-ranging game. He is outstanding.

"If this continues, as he is developing right now, he could be a top level player in the world and finally an important weapon for England."

Kane will be aiming to shoot down Fiorentina at White Hart Lane this Thursday evening and add to the seven Europa League goals he has to his name so far.
