According to Portuguese daily O Jogo, Manchester United and Liverpool linked Argentine attacking midfielder Nicolas Gaitan is almost certain to leave Benfica in the summer.

The Argentina international has been consistently linked with a move to Manchester United for the last few seasons, but a deal has yet to become a reality.




Liverpool, who are looking to add more midfield options in the summer as they wrestle with replacing Steven Gerrard, have also been linked with the 26-year-old and Brendan Rodgers is believed to be a eyeing an agreement at the end of the season for the player.

Gaitan recently signed a new contract with the club, which should have ended all the speculation surrounding the future, but his new deal has lowered his release clause from €45m to €35m.
 


It has been claimed that the deal was specifically drawn up to facilitate a summer exit from Benfica for Gaitan as he wants to leave the club after spending five seasons at the Estadio da Luz.
