Despite handing out a comprehensive drubbing yesterday, Pep Guardiola feels his Bayern Munich side had to work hard to get the win at Paderborn.

Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben scored a brace each as Bayern Munich thrashed ten-man Paderborn 6-0 to go eleven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, continuing their march to the title.

After a 0-0 draw at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, Bayern Munich showed imperious form to hammer the relegation-threatened team away from home.

Guardiola indicated that after suffering a couple of shock results in the league after the winter break, his side took Paderborn seriously and never allowed them to build pressure in the game.

However, despite hammering Paderborn, the Bayern Munich boss feels their performance has convinced him that Andre Breitenreiter’s newly promoted side are good enough to avoid relegation this season. Indeed, Guardiola is convinced they will stay up.

“We took it very seriously indeed and let them have very few chances”, Guardiola told the club’s official site.

“It was hard work against a back five.

“I said beforehand that I thought Paderborn would stay in the Bundesliga, and now I’m sure of it.”
