Louis van Gaal is set to make a move for Real Madrid’s second choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas if David de Gea leaves Manchester United on a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.

It has been claimed that Van Gaal and De Gea are no longer on talking terms after Manchester United refused to include a buy-out clause in his potential new contract.

Manchester United are prepared to make the Spaniard one of the top paid goalkeepers and have offered €10m per year to De Gea to put pen to paper, however they are reluctant to include the release clause.

Van Gaal is believed to be desperate to keep the in-form custodian at Old Trafford, but has started to scour the market to find a replacement, should De Gea leave at the end of the season to join Real Madrid.

According to Madrid-based daily Marca, Van Gaal is eyeing a move for Los Blancos reserve goalkeeper Navas as a potential replacement for the former Atletico Madrid man.

It has also been claimed that the Dutchman wanted the Costa Rican at Old Trafford last summer as he was still unconvinced about De Gea, but Navas joined Real Madrid after a successful World Cup with his national team.

De Gea has recently said that he is happy at Manchester United and his agent Jorge Mendes also indicated that the Spaniard might extend his stay at Old Trafford.
