Liverpool linked Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore is set to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes.

Pastore’s current deal with the French champions runs until 2016, but the player did talk about committing to a new contract with the club towards the end of last year.

The playmaker has been on Liverpool’s radar for a number of years and, with only 18 months left on his current deal, Brendan Rodgers could have hoped to lure the 25-year-old to Anfield at the end of the season.

However, the player is set to break Liverpool’s hearts and according to L’Equipe is set to put pen to paper on a new contract with the Parisians soon.

The new deal will extend his stay in the French capital until at least 2019 and he will receive a hefty pay package of €6.5m per season compared to the €4.2m he was previously receiving on the terms of his old contract.
