Neil Redfearn has revealed that he has spoken to chairman Andrew Umbers about adding players to the squad at Leeds United, stressing that those who do come and impress may well be kept on into next season.

The Leeds boss has bemoaned a lack of midfielders in his ranks and was forced to pick four forwards and two defenders as his outfield substitutes for Tuesday night's away defeat to Brighton.

Redfearn shipped out a number of players in the winter transfer window, but added only three fresh faces. And he is now actively eyeing the loan market, with the added carrot of a potential longer term stay at Elland Road being dangled in front of prospective new signings.

"I've spoken to him about the fact we are a little bit light and imbalanced as a squad", Redfearn told a press conference, when asked if he has talked to Umbers about new additions.

"I think seven have gone out and three have come in, and one of the three came in injured.

"We basically are two in and seven out. It's a big turnover of players and at this time of the season you get a raft of games. With injuries and suspensions your squad becomes stretched", the 49-year-old continued.

"What I don't want to do is let this season fizzle out. I want to finish on a strong run.

"If we can get some players in who fit the criteria and the bill, and we can maybe think about for next season as well, then hopefully we can get some in", Redfearn concluded.

Leeds, who have risen to ten points above the Championship relegation zone on the back of a good run, host Watford at Elland Road on Saturday.
