Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn feels that winter transfer window signing Edgar Cani needs time to get up to speed with Championship football.

Cani was brought in on loan from Catania for the remainder of the season in the winter window, giving Redfearn another tall target man option up front as an alternative to Steve Morison.

Morison is a doubt for this weekend's home Championship clash against Watford, but when asked if Cani will take the striker's place if he does not prove his fitness, Redfearn gave a strong hint the Albanian needs more time to become accustomed to English football.

"Edgar's got to adjust to the standard of this football and the tempo of this football. It's an unforgiving division", he told a press conference.

"It's a thankless task as a lone striker, if that's how we do play.

"So it's a big ask for him and we'll just have to see how things pan out in training.

"It's important that we get a side out that's going to compete, that's going to possibly go and get a result", Redfearn added.

Cani replaced Morison in the 50th minute of Leeds' 2-0 defeat away at Brighton on Tuesday night, but does not appear to have done enough to convince the head coach he would yet be a worthy starter for the Whites, meaning Redfearn may turn to other options.
