Barcelona have announced that they will extend the contract of club stalwart Sergio Busquets until June 2019 with an option for one further year after that.

Busquets, whose existing contract was to expire in June 2018, will ink the new deal tomorrow at the Camp Nou.




A statement released on the club site, stated: “FC Barcelona have reached agreement with Sergio Busquets to extend his contract with the Club until June 30th 2019, with an option for a further year after that.”

Busquets has been one of the indispensable members of the Catalan outfit since he made his debut under Pep Guardiola in the 2008/09 season.
 


The midfielder has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the club and has won 16 trophies in the process including four La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues with the Catalan outfit.

His seniority in the squad has seen manager Luis Enrique name him the fourth captain at the club.

Barcelona are currently sitting second in the league behind table toppers Real Madrid as the Catalans look to win their first title since the 2012/13 season.

Busquets will look to help Barcelona win their next league fixtures against Granada on Saturday.
