Chelsea have announced the signing of a deal with Japanese tyre manufacturers The Yokohama Rubber Company Ltd as their new shirt sponsors for a reported fee of £200m for five years.

The new deal means that Chelsea will pocket £40m per year, which is more than double their current £18m per year deal with Samsung.

Chelsea will display their sponsor’s logo on all of their shirts from first team to their youth teams from the 2015/16 season onwards.

Club chairman Bruce Buck announced the signing of the new deal and welcomed the partnership with the tyre manufacturing giants.

“It is an absolute pleasure to welcome Yokohama as our new official shirt partner and we look forward to a successful relationship with them”, Buck was quoted as saying by the club site.

“Chelsea and Yokohama are a perfect fit. Both are global organisations with a focus on performance and innovation, as well as having huge ambition and an unwavering culture of success”, he added.

The deal is the second biggest shirt sponsorship in the Premier League following behind Manchester United’s £50m per year partnership with Chevrolet which gives an indication of the rise of Chelsea under their owner Roman Abramovich.

The London-based outfit have become one of the most recognisable sports brands with an estimated 500 million fans spread across the globe.
