Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has revealed that he would readily take up the reins of the Gunners if he was offered the job in the future, but he admits not being ready for the role as of now.

Henry joined the north London outfit in the summer of 1999 from Juventus and went on to become the focal point of the Gunners’ strike force for the following eight years at the club.

He eventually left for Catalan giants Barcelona in 2007, but returned to the Emirates Stadium for a brief loan stint in 2012. During his stay at the club the Frenchman scored 228 goals in all competitions, an all-time club record.

The London outfit enjoyed one of their most successful periods during Henry’s time at the club. He won the Premier League twice and the FA Cup three times under Arsene Wenger. Arsenal created history after winning the 2003/04 league title without losing a match through the entire campaign.

His unmatched pedigree and successful period at the club have made him a fan favourite and there has been talk of Henry becoming the manager in the future.

The Frenchman said that he doesn’t know for how long Wenger will remain at the helm of Arsenal, and by the time their long-serving manager calls it a day at the Emirates, Henry wants to be equipped for the managerial post by acquiring the relevant coaching badges.

Henry believes that it is important to be well prepared with the relevant coaching badges to take the reins at a club of Arsenal’s stature.

“The thing that I will say is, I don’t know what Arsene wants to do and how long he will stay, I just want to be equipped to be in the position one day maybe to be a manager”, Henry said during an appearance on the Jonathan Ross show.

“Being the manager of Arsenal football club will be a dream, but let’s all be honest, I need to learn first, that’s the most important thing.

“It’s not because you know the game that you can teach it and I just want to learn.”

On being asked what his response would be if the Gunners offered him the job, Henry replied that he would readily accept the offer.

“I can’t say no to Arsenal so I would say yes!”
