Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has demanded his players give him a strong response to their midweek defeat against Monaco when they take on Everton on Sunday.

Wenger's men started the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against the Ligue 1 side at the Emirates Stadium as firm favourites and tipped to take a significant advantage into the second leg at the Stade Louis II.

But Arsenal were outplayed in their own backyard and slipped to a 3-1 defeat which makes their task of reaching the quarter-finals a difficult one.

Wenger is frustrated with the defeat and has demanded his players show what they are capable of against Everton as they continue to look to cement their spot in the Premier League's top four.

"I expect a strong response because it's a different competition. We have an opportunity to maintain our top three position", he told a press conference this morning.

"There is nobody to blame individually. On the night everything went against us and missing chances was only one characteristic.

"What's important to give a strong response. We are a big club so that gives us a stronger responsibility.

"You play 55 games a year and you have moments where you are disappointed. We want to finish the season in a strong way."

Wenger also admits having fought so hard in the Champions League, from having to beat Besiktas to reach the group stage, makes the result against Monaco even worse to cope with.

"We fought very hard against Besiktas to qualify. What's frustrating is that we've gone out in the last 16 in the last four years", the Frenchman explained.
