Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere has had a "minor procedure" on his ankle in an effort to relieve him of discomfort.

Wilshere only recently made his way back from an ankle injury suffered against Manchester United late last year, returning to the Arsenal squad ahead of schedule.

The England international was on the substitutes bench for Arsenal's Premier League win over Crystal Palace last weekend, however he was not involved in the side's 3-1 Champions League defeat at home to Monaco earlier this week.

Wenger provided a squad fitness update today at a press conference and in the process confirmed Wilshere's procedure.

"Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini are nearly fit", he said.

The Arsenal manager also addressed injury absentees Mathieu Debuchy and Mikel Arteta, expressing his belief that their return will not be for a number of weeks.

"Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Debuchy are still a few weeks away", the Frenchman said.

Arsenal are next in action on Sunday against Roberto Martinez's Everton and will look to bounce back from their midweek disappointment against Monaco.

The Gunners are still not writing themselves out of mounting a comeback against Monaco in the second leg, however their chances appear slim, with the Ligue 1 side's defence amongst the tightest in Europe this term.
