Phil Jones insists he expects nothing less than fierce competition for places at Manchester United.

With injuries having cleared up in defence, Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal has a number of different options when it comes to selecting the make-up of his unit at the back.

Jones has recently been paired with summer signing Marcos Rojo and the duo have seen their growing partnership praised as Manchester United have proved tough to score against.

The England international is taking nothing for granted though when it comes to his place in the team and is well aware that a club of Manchester United's stature will always have a number of options to choose from.

"We're at Manchester United so you wouldn’t expect anything else in that sense", he explained to MUTV.

"Whatever team the manager picks we all have to go out there and produce.

"I’m enjoying playing, but I don’t think anyone is guaranteed to start. It’s about taking things a game at a time and evaluating your individual performances at the end of the match", Jones added.

The former Blackburn Rovers defender will be hoping for the vote to play again this weekend when Manchester United lock horns with Sunderland in a Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Premier League table.
