Manchester City full-back Bacary Sagna has stressed that his side must look to dominate Liverpool at Anfield today to get a positive result.

Pellegrini’s men suffered a 3-2 defeat at Liverpool last season and though they went on to win the Premier League after the Reds slipped up in the home straight, Manchester City are looking to avenge that loss today.

A win this afternoon at Anfield would help Manchester City to cut the difference with league leaders Chelsea to just two points and Jose Mourinho’s men are not in league action this weekend, due to the League Cup final.

However, Sagna stressed that they are not thinking about the Blues and are only looking to put in a solid performance against Liverpool today to get all three points.

Being the English champions, the Frenchman stated that the Citizens will look to dictate terms with the Reds today and believes their attacking style of play will suit Manchester City, who will be looking to create gaps to punch holes into the Liverpool defence.

“We just have focus on ourselves because we have to perform against Liverpool before we can start thinking about closing the gap on Chelsea”, Sagna told the club’s official site.

“We want to dictate the game and will press higher up the pitch.

“Playing away gives us more space than we have at home where teams come and defend in and around their own box so that will suit us, too.”

Though Sagna believes Liverpool’s home form this season is not as imperious when compared to last term, the Frenchman is aware of their recent run of good form, where they are unbeaten in the last ten league games and insisted that Manchester City need to be on the money to get a result at Anfield.

“Their home form hasn’t been as good as it was last season, but that means nothing for this game.

"They have been in good form lately and, as I say, we’ll need to be at our best.”
