As a result the Citizens failed to reduce the five-point gap to Mourinho's men at the top of the Premier League table.

Mourinho's men now have a game in hand on Manchester City, while they capped off their day by beating Spurs 2-0 and collecting the first major piece of silverware in the English season.

"It is better for us that City loses the match, but I told the players this morning we have enough with the final", the Portuguese told the BBC.

"Forget the Premier League and concentrate on the big final", he added.
