Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane feels Chelsea got their share of luck yesterday to beat Spurs in the League Cup final, but believes the experience of playing in the final will stand them in good stead in the future.

John Terry and Diego Costa scored goals, both with the aid of deflections, either side of the break to dash Tottenham’s hopes of repeating their success over Chelsea in the same competition in 2008.

Tottenham had high hopes of winning their first trophy under Mauricio Pochettino’s management, but Terry’s goal just before the break and Costa’s strike eleven minutes after the interval were enough to give Jose Mourinho his first silverware since La Liga success with Real Madrid in 2012.

Kane stressed that Tottenham were never lacking in endeavour and insisted that they gave their all at Wembley yesterday, but he feels in big finals, teams do need a bit of luck going for them, which they didn’t have against Chelsea.

“Yeah, it was disappointing”, Kane told Spurs TV.

“I thought the lads gave everything there and left everything on the pitch.

“And I thought we played well, but in these games sometimes you don’t get a bit of luck and I thought Chelsea did; they got a couple of deflected goals, which on another day probably wouldn’t have went [sic] in.”

However, the striker believes that yesterday’s loss is part of a learning curve for a young Tottenham team and is confident that the experience will stand them in good stead when they play in another big final in the future.

“But that’s football and it's part of a learning curve. We have got a very young team here and it’s an experience.

“Hopefully there are many more finals to come.”
