Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy feels Reds boss Brendan Rodgers deserves huge credit for turning around their fortunes this season.

Liverpool were languishing in 12th in the league table in November after a defeat at Crystal Palace and after they crashed out of the Champions League group stage in December, Rodgers did receive a lot of flak for his transfer business in the summer, with over £100m spent on new players.

However, the Liverpool manager made tactical changes in terms of formation to suit his players and they have been in brilliant form over the last few months.

They are unbeaten in eleven in the league and are now just two points off fifth placed Manchester United, in the process staking a real claim for a top four finish in the league this season.

Murphy feels the Northern Irishman deserves a lot of credit for turning the team around this term and praised him for making the necessary changes, which have brought about a remarkable turnaround in form since those difficult days in November.

The former England international also believes Liverpool have real momentum behind them and are now one of the favourites to finish in the Champions League spots this season.

“He deserves credit”, Murphy told the BBC.

“The tactical change he made when he altered the formation was crucial and of course getting players fit helps; there is also a competition for places.

“But their form has been terrific. They have real momentum and are now the form team pushing for those Champions League positions.”
