Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has insisted that he is enjoying the new role as the leader the side and will aim to take his team to a new level in the near future.

The 23-year-old was handed the captain's armband at the beginning of 2015 and reveals that it has been an honour for him to lead a side like Leeds United, which according to him is the biggest club he has played for so far in his career.

However, with the new role comes new responsibility and the former Hull City player is relishing the prospect of taking his team to new heights under his leadership.

He also took time to credit the team spirit and the healthy dressing room environment that he believes will be the key to the Peacocks' success in the near future.

"It’s a great honour to captain this club, it’s the biggest club I’ve ever played for", Cooper told his club's official site.

"I’m really enjoying it and hopefully I can take us to the highest place we can be."

While speaking about the impact of youth on his side, Cooper also highlighted the presence of more experienced players such as Luke Murphy, Scott Wootton and Billy Sharp, who have the ability to gel with the others.

"The lads are great. Obviously a lot of the young lads have been here a while but then there are the likes of Murphy, Scott Wootton and Sharpy – the lads get amongst each other.

"It’s a real good dressing room, we just need to switch on now and, come Wednesday, hopefully get three points."

Neil Redfearn's side will play Ipswich Town next in the Championship on Wednesday.
