Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane believes that their loss to Chelsea in the League Cup final yesterday will spur the north Londoners to get better in the future.

Spurs lost 2-0 to Jose Mourinho’s side at Wembley to squander the chance to win a trophy this season. On the other hand, the Blues won their first piece of silverware since the Portuguese returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013.

Kane has enjoyed a stellar campaign this season having scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, which has seen the club hierarchy extend his contract until the summer of 2020.

Having defeated Chelsea 5-3 the last time the two teams met, the League Cup final promised much for the Lilywhites, but Mourinho’s side produced a clinical display to snuff out any chances that their opponents produced, and the Blues were lethal whenever they found any openings in Spurs’ defence.

Playing the first big final of his senior career, Kane was aghast at losing to their hated west London opponents.

However, looking ahead to the future, the Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate added that their loss will work as a catalyst for Spurs to do better in the future.

“It’s the worst feeling in the world, losing a final on the big stage”, Kane told SpursTV.

“When you see Chelsea lift the trophy at the end it stokes the fire in your belly, it makes you want to be at Wembley again and lift the trophy next time.

“Hopefully we’ll have that to come next season.”
