Despite their setback at Liverpool yesterday, Manuel Pellegrini is refusing to write Manchester City out of the Premier League title race and has stressed that they will continue to fight for it until the end of the season.

A 2-1 defeat at Anfield denied Manchester City the chance to eat away at Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table and they remained five points off the league leaders.

For a team who are looking to defend their league title, Manchester City’s recent run of form has not been encouraging and they have won just four of their last ten league fixtures.

With Chelsea having played a game less, many believe Pellegrini’s hopes of defending the title are quickly evaporating, but the Chilean is not ready to raise the white flag just yet.

Though he admits another three points dropped at Liverpool made their job harder, the Manchester City manager insisted that they will continue to fight for the title and try to win as many games as possible from now until the end of the season.

“It’s three points less”, Pellegrini told the club’s official site.

“When we drop points it’s difficult to try to reach the top of the table.

“We must try to continue, to win the next game and as many games as we can, and we’ll see where we finish.”

Manchester City will look to return to winning ways when they host relegation battling Leicester City on Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium, a game in which three points will now surely be crucial.
