Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has lavished praise on striker Olivier Giroud following the Frenchman’s heroics against Everton yesterday.

Giroud came under fire after missing a flurry of goalscoring chances against Monaco in the first leg of their round of 16 tie last week. The French outfit ran away 3-1 victors on the night.

But yesterday the Frenchman scored his ninth league goal of the current league campaign to put the Gunners 1-0 ahead in the first half against Roberto Martinez’s side. Tomas Rosicky scored in the 89th minute to seal all three points for the hosts with a 2-0 win.

Oxlade-Chamberlain praised Giroud for his knack of being in the right place at the right time to score goals.

“Oli is always there or thereabouts when it comes to scoring goals”, the winger told Arsenal Player.

The 21-year-old insists that Giroud’s goalscoring exploits are exactly what the Gunners’ need to turn the course of a match in their favour.

“That’s just what we need – he can score goals not just when we’re dominating the game but he can really turn the game on its head with a goal from a set-piece or out of nothing and that’s what he did.

“In the first half we weren’t so in control of the game but Oli’s always in the right place at the right time and he’s a poacher in the box as well as a great hold-up man for us.

“He got another important goal for us and I think his performance was really good.”

Giroud will look to add to his goal tally when Arsenal play Queens Park Rangers in their next Premier League outing on Wednesday.
