Paris Saint-Germain are set to lock down Manchester United target Marquinhos to a new long-term contract, in order to see off interest from the Red Devils.

Louis van Gaal made a move to take Marquinhos to Old Trafford in the winter transfer window, but PSG blocked any departure for the young defender. Now it has been claimed that Manchester United will rekindle their interest in him in the summer.

The defender did admit at the weekend that he was pleased to know that Manchester United are interested in him, but stressed that he is happy at PSG.

Though the 20-year-old is still not a regular in Laurent Blanc’s starting eleven, PSG see him as a big part of their future and are desperate not to lose the youngster to another European power, such as Manchester United.

According to Telefoot, the Parisians are set to offer a new long-term contract to the Brazilian to keep him away from the clutches of Van Gaal and Co. in the summer.

The new contract will extend his stay at PSG at least until 2020 and is also expected to considerably increase his wage package at the club.

The development will come as bad news for Manchester United, who were ready to rekindle their interest in the defender at the end of the season and now they might have to look elsewhere if Marquinhos signs a new contract with the French champions.
