Arsene Wenger admits that following their defeat against Monaco last Wednesday there was tension in the air at Arsenal and has stressed that their victory over Everton yesterday is a huge boost for their confidence.

The Frenchman has come in for severe criticism for another lacklustre European performance from his team against Monaco and the Gunners were under pressure to deliver a result against Everton.




The 2-0 win over Roberto Martinez’s men eased some of the pressure that they were under and Wenger himself admitted after the match that his men were more cautious than usual in order to get a result at the Emirates.

The Frenchman has conceded that they were under pressure to deliver a performance after the Monaco fiasco in the Champions League and admits that there was tension in the air at the club before yesterday’s game.
 


He applauded his team for responding to the challenge and believes the win over the Toffees is a huge boost for their confidence as they approach the defining period of their season.

"There was a big tension”, Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“And I can tell you that in the last four days the tension was massive as you can imagine.

“At the end of the day, it’s down to the response and the result and I’m convinced that is important and the three points will be vital for our confidence."

Arsenal will take an away trip to relegation battling Queens Park Rangers this Wednesday before travelling to Old Trafford next Monday to take on Manchester United in their FA Cup quarter-final clash.
