Scotland coach Stuart McCall believes that Celtic pair Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong are doing their chances of a spot in the country's national team no harm by holding down regular first team spots with the Bhoys.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila swooped to sign both Mackay-Steven and Armstrong from Dundee United in the winter transfer window, wasting no time in drafting the pair into his team. Indeed, the Norwegian named both in his starting eleven to play Inter at the San Siro last week.

Deila has praised both Mackay-Steven and Armstrong, leaving McCall admitting the pair's progress has not gone unnoticed at international level.

"When we played England, I think a lot of their players have been playing at the top level in England and top European football", McCall was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"Celtic have a strong squad, so for Stuart and Gary to maintain being first-team regulars, that will be an important factor as well.

"They have both got off to a great start and obviously Gary scored a terrific goal yesterday [against Aberdeen] and both are playing with lots of confidence and it's great to see."

22-year-old Armstrong has yet to win a senior cap for Scotland, but has represented the nation at Under-17 and Under-21 level.

24-year-old Mackay-Steven meanwhile has one senior Scotland cap to his name, gained in 2013.

The duo will hope to feature against Gibraltar in a Euro 2016 qualifier on 29th March.
