Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken about the club's two winter transfer window signings: Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista and Polish midfielder Krystian Bielik.

The Frenchman threw Gabriel into the starting eleven for Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton at the weekend, with the centre-back replacing Per Mertesacker in the side and clocking up the full 90 minutes.

Wenger admitted after the match that he was pleased with Gabriel's display and this morning, at a press conference, confirmed the eventual aim for the defender is to play regularly in the starting eleven, not to provide defensive backup.

The Arsenal manager said: "We bought him to hold down a regular place and that's the target.

"His English isn't perfect yet."

Wenger also spoke about 17-year-old midfielder Bielik, who was snapped up from Polish side Legia Warsaw.

As Wenger often takes little notice of the age of a player, it had been thought Bielik could be introduced to first team action this season. But not so says Wenger, who feels he is unlikely to make his first team debut in the current campaign.

"He'll play for the under-18s tomorrow.

"I don't think he will make his first-team debut this season."
