Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has praised the performance of new signing Gabriel Paulista in their win over Everton on Sunday.

Per Mertesacker’s below par performance against Monaco last week in a 3-1 Champions League defeat saw him drop down to the bench and Arsene Wenger gave his winter signing his first Premier League start for the Gunners against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian gave a commanding performance at the heart of their defence and played an important role in earning Arsenal a clean sheet against Roberto Martinez’s men on Sunday, in a 2-0 win.

Wenger was himself pleased with the performance of his new signing and feels that he did well to adapt to the pace of the Premier League in his first start.

Ospina was also impressed by the performance that Gabriel produced in his first league start for the Gunners and believes the Brazilian will turn into an important figure in Arsenal’s defence in the future.

“He's a player who is very quick and very technical”, the goalkeeper told the club’s official site.

“It was a supreme game from him.

“He helps take us forward, Arsenal can count on some great defenders and he's one of them.”

It remains to be seen whether Gabriel manages to keep Mertesacker out of the first eleven again in Arsenal’s trip to Queens Park Rangers tomorrow, as the Gunners continue their Premier League campaign.
